Penhold is close enough to Red Deer that a lot of people commute in, and far enough out that the lots are bigger and the sightlines are longer.
That combination changes the design. On a large lot with the house set back from the road, a system needs to hold its shape from a distance — which usually means running the main rooflines properly and skipping the fussier detail that disappears past thirty metres anyway. On a big open property with no streetlight nearby, the practical value goes up too: a lit house is a house you can find your way to across a dark yard in winter.
